E-style tactics and guidelines:
What exactly IS E-style?
-Well, E-style is short for European style, developed by, you guessed it, Europeans (I don't know if they really did, but let's just say so.). The basic fundamental of E-style is to stay away from your opponent and use your guns to their full advantage, only using your sword in wall-slashing or quickly BFing past an opponent. Unlike K-style, swords don't play a key role in its tactics, so the sword you use doesn't matter. But, guns definitely do.
First off, you better have a shotgun, a rifle, or a rocket launcher. If you don't, get one.
1) Revs / Shotgun
-This combo allows you to fend off an enemy close to you, and to shoot them from afar, making it the best combo to use in tight situations. However, it is unwise to use this combo in an open map, like Castle, because you cannot dodge everyone (Since most people tend to all fight around the bridge). It is good, however, for certain hallways, and to shoot from the roof. This combo is best utilized outdoors, however, or in Mansion.
2) Shotgun / Rocket launcher
-This combo is great for a map full of K-stylists, as it enables you to give a one-two punch up close; Blow them up, then shoot them up, within a few seconds if you're lucky. This is especially useful, since it makes blocking useless when you have rockets. It’s also great for turtlers. If you shoot, they stand and block, while you fire a rocket in for a good, clean hit.
3) Shotgun / Rifle
-This combo is both an enhanced indoor SG/Revs, and a decimator in indoor/outdoor matches. If anyone gets close to you while you're spraying (Or aiming, god forbid!), you can quickly switch to SG, shoot them, and run to another spot to utilize your rifle, or continue using your shotgun.
4) Rocket launcher/Rocket launcher
-A great combo if you know how to control both and not blow yourself to pieces. It's the ultimate combo against a K-stylist (Or any style for that matter), as long as they don't lag, and if you know how to use it.
5) HMG / anything
-HMGs harness great damage, great ammo, and a good firing rate, which means that most are going to be mowed down by this if you know how to use this right. However, they’re heavy (Hence HEAVY machine gun, duh) and you may have to sacrifice weaponry or armor to use this.
6) Rifle/Revs
-This combo is the most successful I’ve personally used in Mansion DMs. If they get close, spray them down. When they go far, gun them down. I’ve also done half-step with revs near the statue, and it works like a charm. When you run out of rev ammo doing that, simply start HSing with your rifle, shooting in small bursts. This tactic works almost anywhere as well, with the exception of small hallways (Though you can substitute HS for jumping off walls)
Secondary equipment;
1) Grenades
-Useful indoors as a way to "clear a path", so to speak.
2) Flash bangs
-Pisses off everyone, plus they can't see, which makes killing fun!
3) Med kits
-Good if you somehow run low on your HP or AP, and need a quick fix, if you have the weight to spare! (And if it doesn’t mess up your SS having them)
TACTICS
I’ll explain further how to utilize these weapon combos, through quick maneuvering and simply gunning people down.
1) General tactics
A. Using walls to your advantage
-As anyone who uses rockets knows, you can change to rockets while already running on walls. The trick to this is to either run across a wall, slash shotting off of it, and firing towards your opponent, or running up a wall, and doing the same thing. Also works with wall slashing off of a wall. Works with any weapon but rifle/smgs/hmg, since aiming/damage is hindered.
B. Reloading your weapons at the right times
-It is good to bounce off walls while reloading. Basically, wall slash into a slash-shot into your weapon, and bounce off of the wall, making you harder to hit as if you were simply tumbling. This is used if there is no available cover to use.
C. Using cover
-Any E-styler can tell you that if you don’t use some sort of cover or maneuvering, that you’re a sitting duck. If you don’t have some way to get away from an approaching enemy, then you’re as good as dead. Use walls, boxes, barrels, crates, anything to hide behind if you need it.
D. Being able to dodge is KEY.
-If you can’t predict what your opponent is going to do at all, then E-style will prove hard. If you can’t try to dodge what you think your opponent is going to through at you, then it’s all over quick.
E. Aiming is the key to victory
-If you just sit and spray with your rifle, just letting it go anywhere, then stop playing. If you can’t at least aim decently, this style isn’t for you. E-style is all about aim and evasiveness.
2) Revs and Shotgun
-Typically, what you do with this combo is utilize HS by just continually gunning your opponent until they fall, or until they go near you. In the event they get near you, get away by quickly BFing past them, or by using walls if possible, then continue it. It’s best to stay further away at first firing your revs, then switching to SG, then switching to use both.
3) Shotgun and Rocket Launcher
-My favorite and most used combo, it makes for dealing with most any style easy. Though my style is more hybrid than it is E-style, you can still utilize this set as an E-style set, if you use it correctly.
A. The Distracting Shot
-Used when some nubcake is hiding, trying to reload, and if you cannot get a good shot at him, or just want to have a bit o’ fun. The basic is, you fire a rocket around the vicinity of the person hiding (Or just hit them, too, which also causes the same result). This causes a general reaction of "OSHITRUNFORIT", and they run out of their hiding place, for which you could do any number of things.
B. The 180 Running Rocket
-Used when you know that your chaser is right behind you. The basic is to quickly, in mid air, slash shot with your rocket launcher by QUICKLY turning around, firing, and turning back with sword in hand as you land. This is sometimes a bit hard to get used to, but it gets easier with practice. This also works with most weapons, including your partner, the shotgun!
4) Shotgun and Rifle
-By far the best set to use in town that I’ve tried. Because of its half open, half closed in nature, this set does wonders in both. You can use either in the clock tower area, use either in the alleyway, and use either in the bunker. They’re interchangeable here, making them an awesome choice for this map.
A. Because of their nature, the shotgun doesn’t hold itself well to long range, but the rifle does, they are opposites when it comes to their strengths. The rifle holds well long range, but does not do well for up close fights, while the shotgun does wonders up-close, but cannot be used well long-range (Except for getting rid of AP by stray shots). Because they cover up their weaknesses by being paired, it makes for an outstanding duo in almost any situation.
5) Dual rocket launchers
-I personally hate most that use this, because they hurt themselves more than the opponent. If you can’t control it, don’t use it.
A. This is the best combo I’ve seen for trying to get up close, but stay far enough away that they don’t get hurt by their opponent much. Because you’ll be constantly firing them, chances are your opponent with either get discouraged by going in close, or be foolish and charge into you, which is a big mistake. If they charge, just keep firing far enough away from you that you hardly hurt yourself, though if it’ll help you, jump and shoot close to you but far enough so it won’t do much to yourself.
6) HMG
-The best weapon in berserker matches, period. If you’re the berserker, and you have an HMG, most who are fools that don’t evade you will die in 5 hits or less.
A. The key to this, is to stay the HELL away from anyone, shoot from a nice safe distance. From what I’ve noticed, the inaccuracy it has fixes itself from its very high ammo count. There isn’t much to using this weapon, except that.
7) Rifle and revs
-As mentioned earlier, my favorite in Mansion DMs. This is much like shotgun and rifle, since revs actually o quite well up close (Just not AS good), so just follow what I wrote for that.
